Publix Super Markets is planning to open another store in the Charlotte region. The Lakeland, Florida, based grocery chain has signed a lease for a 48,000-square-foot store at Harris Farms Shopping Center in Mooresville, Publix spokeswoman Kimberly Reynolds said. The store is expected to open in 2024 on the northwest corner of Coddle Creek Highway and Kistler Farm Road. Publix has 22 stores in the Charlotte region.
The supermarket chain’s latest announcement comes as two other North Carolina grocers recently opened new stores and several other supermarkets also are planning expansions in the Charlotte region in the ongoing competition for market share. In Mooresville, Publix will anchor the commercial space with three outparcels of the 131-acre, mixed-use development, according to an article by Iredell Free News on Charlotte-based developer Cambridge Properties’ website. The residential plan includes 167 single-family homes, 158 town homes and 378 apartment units.
